Bruce, a charming and sweet natured bloke, wouldn't hurt a fly...

So Saturday night was game night, Dan came over and brought his Legion of Everblight for a 75 point game. As the quicker amongst you may have guessed, I brought my Trolls.
Yet again few pictures were taken, but this time it was down to my camera being away with the wife and kids, not me being a lazy sod.

And now for the fun parts, trying to recall the Army lists from memory ( this should be a good laugh, there may have been whisky involved )

Scenario : The Pit

Legion of Everblight.
Lylyth 2
Ravagore 1
Ravagore 2
Nephilim Bolt Thrower
Archangel
Shepard 1
Shepard 2
Sorcerer
Minimum Unit of the reindeer riding shooty people.
(I think that's about right, but the details are a little hazy)

Trollbloods - Power of Dhuniad
Ragnor
Rune bearer -Free
Mountain King
Mauler
Acer
Bomber
Stormtroll
Whelps -Free
Janissa Stonetide -Free
Krielstone Bearer and 3 Scribes and Elder
Dhunian Knot

Round one.

Daniel won the dice off and decided to take first turn, his cunning plan was to advance cautiously and prepare to launch a massive Alphastrike in his second turn. My cunning plan was so throw a spanner into the works, basically this meant that all the "Heavy Mob" lumbered up, and just into the zone, Krielstone doing its "you are not setting me on fire you Bastard" Aura, and Ragnor shuffling along behind the wall of meat, popped his feat (-1Dice to all damage rolls to all his lads in his control area) and parked himself behind Janissas Hill and got Dug In with Earths Blessing.

Round two.

Daniel decided that a frontal assault may not be the best move, so he popped feat and his people made like a chain gun, unfortunately it was a chain gun loaded with blank ammo....

The red dice is the column, the greens are damage at Dice -1.....

Total casualties from his feat turn, 2 whelps, and one member of the Dhunian Knot. Then it was time for retribution. Stormtroll went after the Reindeer riders and killed two of them (they did kill his snack food), the Bomber ran up to the Archangel to block it in place meanwhile Bruce ate a Ravagore, and hit Lylyth with a Killshot which would have killed her if she hadn't transferred the hit to the Nephilim. This also meant I had cleared the zone, so by turns end I had scored 2 Control Points.

Round three.

Dan decided that this was it, in terms of attrition it was not going well, so it was time to go for it, The Archangel tried to eat the Diretroll parked in front of it..... all Fury used later, and the Bomber had taken 4 points of damage total, Dans dice hate him, they really hate him. The surviving Ravagore tried it on with Bruce and merely created a pile of whelps. Lylyth smartly legged It behind the building. The Nephilim moved into the zone to stop scoring and cracked off a shot at a Dug In Ragnor, who giggled and went back to his cuppa. A Shepard decided that now was a good time to run into the zone as one more obstacle to scoring.
The Troll response was less than subtle, the Bomber ripped into the Archangel and did more damage than either of us expected and nearly killed it, but sadly I didn't have any backup available to finish the deal. The Axer went full nutter and slammed the Nephilim out of the zone and almost killed it in the process. The Mauler slapped the ravagore twice and then threw him at the sorcerer killing both. Janissa used tectonic shift to move the Shepard over next to Ragnor, Splat.
The round ended with the score of 4-Nil

Dans fantastic looking Archangel

Round four.

Lylyth ran for her flag in attempt to get some points on the board, the second Shepard ran into the zone to stop me scoring. The Archangel decided to make a run for the zone to slow the scoring, but sadly the Bomber managed to finish the job (apparently they taste like chicken...), a heavily damaged Nephalim passed its Fury Test, and decided to spend its turn standing up and shooting at the Ragnor, I suspect he was suffering from concussion....
Score now at 4-1
Bruce ate the Shepard, and took a boosted killshot at Lylyth and missed, rerolled due to puppet master and missed again. At this point I realised there was no way I was going to catch Lylyth this turn and decided to end it there on scenario.
Final score 5-2 to the Trolls
A great game with many laughs, and a few good drinks.

I may have to give some serious thought to the army composition, while the Bomber did sterling service he didnt really fulfil his intended purpose, and survived by pure luck.
I may have to look at a way of dropping him and the Storm troll and adding in a pair of Earthborns, only problem is that it puts me 1 point over at 76, so there may be some other juggling involved.

In any case until next time, have fun and enjoy.

I blame the Scotts, not me personally (ok, I need to shoulder some of the blame here, not all of it, but definetly some), I am talking about Scott the other gamer, and Scott the supplier.
Here I was happily trundling along playing just Warmachine/Hordes (we will NOT mention the three armies possessed for that system) and they introduce me to Bolt Action.........
Now I have a reasonable sized Royal Marines force and am waiting on more Armour to support them.

We started off with a 1000 point game to help me learn the rules. Since we were at my place and I only have a 4'x4' table, that's what we used. My RM force against Scotts Hungarians.
I rapidly learned four things about the game,
1 - Assaulting people with Veteran Infantry is fun and effective.
2 - Assaulting tanks with Veteran Infantry is a great way to kill your own infantry.
3 - Hungarians are best shot in the back with a Medium Machine Gun.
4 - Mortar teams can't hit stationary targets but moving ones are easy.

Happy Scott unpacks his Hungarians and discovers I have single malt...

Foolishly we only took and bare handful of pictures of the match, most of which were more blur than image. But the general narrative went along the lines of both sides trading artillery, him from a howitzer, me from a Centaur tank, a mortar Team missing everything except a rapidly reversing Csaba Armoured car, and his lads getting shot in the back while running away with the objective by a turret mounted MMG

The Centaur, fresh from slaying fleeing Hungarians.

Our second game came in at 1250 points, more pictures were taken (Unfortunately, it would appear my photography had improved not a jot), more thought was given, mortar still couldn't hit a building on a 2+. This time Scott won, it was a much closer match with the final score being 3 control points to 2 in his favour, but with me having the much higher body count. It was also played on a full size 6' x 4' table, this allowed us to use our artillery at much greater range, and hilarious mis-effect.

Royal Marines with Suppressed Stens.

The Lads dealing with a Stableyard full of Hungarians.
And this is why we cant have nice things, the Hetzer decides to remove the Centaur,  while the Csaba mows down my Mortar Team.
Well Folks, thats it for this episode, at some point I will put up a few Warmachine/Hordes based posts in the near future, and since I have more Bolt Action planned in the next few weeks there will be more from there as well.

Until next time,

Scott.
